What to Do When Something Triggers You

Ever had one of those moments when something—or someone—just sets you off?
That fire in your chest.
The heat rising in your cheeks.
The sharp spike of “What the heck just happened?”

It can feel uncomfortable. Even intense.
But what if I told you… that’s actually sacred?

Yes.
Your body is whispering to you, gently and urgently:
“Hey, something here is touching an old wound.”

So, what do we do when we’re triggered?
We pause.
Not to run. Not to fix.
But to feel.

Here’s the thing:
We’re often told to brush it off.
To ignore it.
To tell ourselves “it’s no big deal.”
To spiritually bypass it with “everything happens for a reason” or “it’s all love and light.”

But here’s the truth I’ve learned the hard way — none of that works.
What happens when you skip over the trigger?
You stay stuck in the pattern.
The cycle repeats.
The wound stays open.

Instead, I encourage you to pause.

Sit with that discomfort, like you would a trembling child.
Breathe deeply.
Let the sensation move through you.
Ask yourself, quietly:
“What is this trying to show me? What’s the lesson here?”

That’s where the gold is.
Not in the trigger itself.
Not in the heat of the moment.
But in what it reveals about you. About what’s still needing your love.
About where you can grow.

You’re not broken for being sensitive.
You’re not too much.
You’re deep—and brave enough to meet yourself at the edge of your healing.
