For a long time, I believed the answer to almost every problem was simple.
Work harder.
Wake up earlier.
Drink another coffee.
Push through.
Keep going.
If I felt anxious, I thought I needed more discipline.
If I felt exhausted, I thought I wasn’t working hard enough.
If I couldn’t relax, I assumed I was doing something wrong.
From the outside, my life looked exciting.
I had built businesses in Bali.
I was leading retreats.
Travelling the world.
Living a dream I had worked incredibly hard to create.
Eventually, I even became a yacht captain and sailed across the Pacific Ocean—a dream I’d had since I was a little girl.
People often asked me,
“How do you do it all?”
The truth?
I was surviving beautifully.
My calendar was full.
My passport was full.
But my nervous system was empty.
Even anchored in a turquoise lagoon in French Polynesia, surrounded by complete silence, my mind was already planning the next project.
The next crossing.
The next email.
The next thing to solve.
I couldn’t understand it.
If I couldn’t relax in paradise…
Where would I ever relax?
That question stayed with me for a long time.
The Day Everything Changed
The biggest shift didn’t happen during a retreat.
Or in a therapy session.
Or while reading another self-help book.
It happened when I learned one simple fact.
Your nervous system has one primary job.
To keep you alive.
That’s it.
Every second of every day, it’s asking one question:
“Am I safe?”
Suddenly, so many things made sense.
My overthinking.
My difficulty switching off.
The guilt I felt when resting.
The constant need to stay productive.
None of those things meant I was broken.
They meant my nervous system had become very, very good at protecting me.
It simply hadn’t learned that the danger had passed.
The Question That Changed My Life
I stopped asking,
“What’s wrong with me?”
And started asking,
“What is my nervous system trying to protect me from?”
That question changed everything.
Because curiosity creates space.
Judgment creates more stress.
The more I understood my body, the less I fought against it.
And slowly…
Very slowly…
My body started trusting me again.
Healing Was Smaller Than I Expected
I used to think healing would arrive in one big breakthrough.
Now I know it looks more like this.
Three slow breaths before checking my phone.
Walking barefoot after work.
Choosing sleep over one more email.
Eating lunch without scrolling.
Watching dolphins beside the boat instead of reaching for my camera.
Saying “no” without feeling guilty.
These moments don’t look extraordinary.
But they changed my life.
Because healing isn’t usually dramatic.
It’s repetitive.
Why I Wrote This Guide
Over the years, hundreds of people have asked me where to begin.
Not everyone has time to read a 300-page psychology book.
Most people simply want practical tools they can use today.
That’s why I wrote How to Regulate Your Nervous System in 7 Days.
Not because I believe seven days will magically transform your life.
But because seven days are enough to prove something important.
Small habits work.
One breath.
One walk.
One good night’s sleep.
One meaningful conversation.
Repeated consistently…
They change the direction of your life.
Maybe This Is Your Beginning Too
If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed…
Always “on.”
Unable to switch off.
Constantly overthinking.
Please hear this.
You are not weak.
You are not lazy.
You are not failing.
Your nervous system has simply been trying to protect you.
And just as it learned survival…
It can learn safety.
One small habit at a time.
If you’d like to go deeper, I’d love to invite you to read my guide, How to Regulate Your Nervous System in 7 Days.
I’m also opening applications for a limited number of FREE Nervous System Assessments, where we’ll explore your unique nervous system patterns together and create a personalised action plan.
Because my greatest hope isn’t that you simply read another book.
It’s that you begin building a life your nervous system no longer has to recover from.
And if that journey starts with one slow breath…
That’s more than enough.
