JUICE-FAST / DETOX 

 

The detox program you’ll follow next week, in plan 6 – a proper detox is in partnership with my naturopath in Bali Wellness center (7 days Detox 2.000.000IDR /115EUR + 7 days liver cleanse 690.000IDR / 39EUR) . 

 

If you don’t feel like ordering the detox package, I also like the juice fasts programs of Joe Cross. It can be used as a substitute for the detox program. But I strongly suggest the detox program of our naturopath. It is more complete. After just 3 days, I could smell the toxins come out of my skin. It’s the best detox program I’ve done up until now. 

 

Otherwise, Joe Cross’ concept is pretty simple: drink fresh fruit and vegetable juices.  

 

Joe Cross’ juicing plans: 

  • Drink a rainbow every day: red, orange, green, yellow, orange, purple juices

  • To make sure you’re getting a variety of nutrients

  • Juice rule: 80% veggie / 20% fruit

  • 4 to 6 juices a day

  • 2L additional fluids (infused water, coconut water, broth, tea)

  • If you’re hungry, consume more juice

If you’re craving a 100% fruit juice, then simply make sure your next 2 juices are 100% veggies.

Wake up: drink detox infused water, lukewarm with lime or ginger (curcuma, lemongrass, lime, …)

Breakfast: red or orange

Mid-morning: coconut water

Lunch: go green

Afternoon snack: go green or red

Dinner: go green

Desert: go purple or orange

Bedtime: drink herbal tea

 

Stay hydrated throughout the day, drink min. 2-2.5L of water.

 

Every person is different. If you have headaches, you feel dizzy, or you exercise more as usual; drink more coconut water.

3-5 DAYS JUICE FAST MENU

 

DAY 1

 

Wake up: detox infused lukewarm water with lemon

 

Breakfast: 

 

BCA

1 Beetroot

4 carrots

2 apples

A dash of Ginger

Juice for 2 servings. Keep one in the fridge, add some lemon juice, as a preservative. 

 

Mid-morning: coconut water

 

Lunch: green baby

 

The juice must be extracted, not blended- and may contain any green vegetable, with preference to celery, cucumber, spinach, and cilantro. 

You may add a dash of ginger if desired. 

Add one tablespoon of olive oil.

 

Afternoon snack: green / red

Same as breaky. You may make two servings, and keep one in the refrigerator.

 

Dinner: green baby

Same as lunch. You may make two servings, and keep one in the refrigerator.

 

Bedtime: herbal tea

Refer to page … for herbal tea options.

Lemon balm for example. 

 

Stay hydrated throughout the day, drink min. 2-2.5L of water.

 

If you are hungry, consume more juice.

 

DAY 2

 

Wake up: detox infused lukewarm water lemon & ginger

 

Breakfast: 

2 Carrots

2 Apples

A dash of Ginger

 

Mid-morning: coconut water

 

Lunch: green baby

2 cucumbers

8 celery sticks

4 apples

16 kale (Tuscan cabbage) leaves

1 lemon

A dash of ginger

Makes 2 servings, refrigerate one for dinner

 

Afternoon snack: 

Carrot – apple – ginger

2nd serving

 

Dinner: green baby

Bedtime: herbal tea

Camomile tea

 

Stay hydrated throughout the day, drink min. 2-2.5L of water.

DAY 3:

 

Wake up: detox infused lukewarm water with lemongrass

 

Breakfast: orange/ red

Carrot / Apple / Lime

 

Mid-morning: coconut water

 

Lunch: green baby

The juice must be extracted, not blended- and may contain any green vegetable, with preference to celery, cucumber, spinach, and cilantro. 

You may add a dash of ginger if desired.

Every person is different. If you have headaches, you feel dizzy, or you exercise more as usual; drink more coconut water.

 

During a 5-day fast, you’ll work through the withdrawal phase, which is usually the first 3-days of the juice-fast. When you reach day 5, you should be feeling great, and proud that you’ve reached your goal. Feel free to extend your fast if you feel like you can keep going. 

 

Please refer to a 3-day juice fast menu for the program of the first 3 days of the 5-day fast. 

 

DAY 4

 

Wake up: drink detox infused water, lukewarm with lime and ginger 

 

Breakfast: red or orange

Sporty spice

4 beetroot 

2 carrots

6 celery sticks

2 oranges

2 lemons

2 handfuls of basil

2 servings

 

Mid-morning: coconut water

 

Lunch: go green

Green Lemonade

2 apples

4 handfuls of spinach

16 kale (Tuscan cabbage) leaves

1 cucumber

4 celery sticks

2 lemons

 

Makes 2 servings, refrigerate one for dinner

Peach or Pear delight

1 sweet potato

2 ripe peaches or pears

1 apple

1 cup of blueberries

Dash of ground cinnamon

DAY 5

 

Wake up: drink detox infused water, lukewarm with lime and curcuma

 

Breakfast: Mighty Green Grape

1 cucumber

2 courgette (zucchini)

2 Handful of parsley

12 asparagus spears (stalks)

2 large tomato

2 apple

60 black / purple-red grapes

 

Mid-morning: coconut water

 

Lunch: Un-Beet-Able

2 beetroot

6 carrots

2 apples

15 kale (Tuscan cabbage) leaves

5cm piece of fresh root ginger

Makes 2 servings, refrigerate one for dinner

 

Afternoon snack: go green or red

Mighty green grape 2nd serving

 

Dinner: 

Un-Beet-Able 2nd serving

 

Desert: go purple or orange

Ginger Pear Snip

3 parsnips

1 pear

4cm ginger

TRANSITIONING OUT OF A JUICE- FAST

 

You lose weight and you get healthier not just by juicing, but by changing your diet and lifestyle in the long run. You should always ease your way back into a regular diet. Transition back into a plant-based diet for 3 days. 

Add nuts or beans to your meals (plant-based proteins). Animal proteins are better introduced gradually. Be gentle to your body, eat just enough to nourish yourself. Smaller amounts, more often, to continue to manage your appetite and for a healthy digestion. 

 

The digestibility of the food you prepare can be enhanced, by the way, you cook your food. Fried food, foods with a lot of oil, added fats, are hard to digest. 

 

Gently allow your body to assimilate first raw veggies, the next day you can add an egg, the next day some rice, and on day 4 chicken for example. 

 

At all costs avoid fast foods, processed meats, high-fat foods, dairy, … Your body will not be happy if you dump these products in after a juice fast. You can expect it to get out, just as fast as it came in, if you know what I mean…. Ha!

 

Plus it could result in stomach pain, indigestion, boating, combined with fatigue; nothing pleasant really. I mean be my guest, I’m not telling you what to do. I’m just warning you of the possible outcome. 

 

DETOX FAQ

 

HOW MANY JUICES

 

On average you’ll drink an average of 4-6 juices a day, there is no maximum. If you’re hungry, just drink more juice. You can also drink as much vegetable stock as you want.

 

EXERCICE

 

I’d suggest doing some low- and high-intensity cardio programmes (walking and running) and low- and high- intensity strength- training that use your body weight to build your muscles. More on our youtube channel @gilitravelagency.

 

SLEEP

 

During your detox make sure you get a minimum of 8 hours of sleep. Go to bed early, and pamper yourself. If you are tired, even grant yourself an afternoon nap.

 

BOWEL MOVEMENT

 

Talking about our toilet stories is not very normal in our society. Yet, we all do it. Ha!

You might experience some constipation and/or diarrhoea during your detox, its part of the cleansing process. If it persists, off course, consult a doctor.

 

Natural remedies:

 

Constipation: a spoon of olive oil, and a couple of dates.

 

Diarrhoea: bananas and rice.

 

For both drink more water, and increase the amount you walk.

 

COLONICS AND ENEMAS

It will help you release further stored toxins. I find it helpful, on the lther hand the body is just fine on its own. It’s really up to you. See how it makes you feel.

Once you pass the beginning, you’ll start losing weight, you’ll feel healthy and energetic and your motivation will increase.

 

DOCTOR

 

You might want to talk to your doctor. Most of them will be sceptical about a juice detox. They think it’s rapid weight loss with deprivation of nutrients.

 

I always like to think I try and see how I feel. I personally love it. As a general rule, if it makes you feel terrible, stop.

 

We want to boost our immune system and rid our body of toxic waste.

 

OBSTACLES

 

⁃ Hungry: drink more juice, water and/or coconut water

⁃ headaches: drink more water, more juice.

⁃ Social events: avoid them this week.

⁃ I ate: its ok to eat a salad, cooked greens, baked sweet potato, a piece of fruit. Best not go for garlic bread, pizza or alcohol. You might not feel great physically and emotionally. Remember you’ve only failed if you use this as an excuse to quit.

⁃ Bored: get creative! Within the recipes and start the projects you never have time for!
