Hoop, Learn, Repeat: How Movement Supercharges Language Learning

Yes, you read that right. You can actually learn a language while hooping. It’s the ultimate multitask — and one of my favorite ways to keep the body, brain, and curiosity alive.

📚 Brain? On.
🔥 Core? On.
💩 Digestion? On point.
🎶 Mood? Elevated.

I hoop almost daily — translation: about 4 days a week, which I promise counts 😉 — and during that time, I repeat Japanese phrases, listen to Portuguese podcasts, or simply let foreign words dance in my ears while I spin.

Why does this work?

🧠 Real fact: Physical movement boosts neuroplasticity. Your brain literally retains information better when your body is moving. Movement signals to your nervous system: we’re alive, engaged, and ready to learn!

Why I keep learning new languages:
🌍 It keeps me endlessly curious.
💬 It makes travel richer — conversations feel alive, moments more immersive.
💃 It humbles me — forgetting the word for “fork” mid-sentence is character-building, trust me.
🏡 It stretches my world — even when I don’t leave the living room.

So here’s my mantra: Hoop, wobble, laugh, learn. Drop the hoop? Laugh. Forget a word? Laugh. Repeat. It’s joyful, messy, and effective.

💭 Reflection:

  • What could you combine with movement to make learning fun?

  • How might playful repetition help you retain new skills in other areas of life?
