I’m a blue pond

And even I don’t quite know why I’m this blue.

Is it the sky I’m holding?
The minerals that dance in my depths?
Or just the way sunlight chooses to love me?

Here in Biei, Hokkaido — tucked between hills and silence —
the water glows a surreal, milky turquoise.

Some say it’s aluminum hydroxide,
a gift from the volcanic whispers of nearby Mt. Tokachi.

Tiny particles suspended in the water scatter light,
like magic scatters wonder —
reflecting not just blue,
but the way blue feels.

Still, I don’t really need to know why.
Some beauty doesn’t ask for explanation.
It just is.
