When the Fire Rises: Choosing Power Over Reaction

PC: @armaaannd

“What do I do when my narcissist shows up?” he asked.

And I knew exactly what he meant.
Because I’ve met that version of myself, too — the part that’s petty, flaring, raw with ache and old wounds.
The part that wants to start a fire just to feel warmth again.

What do I do?

The same thing I’ve learned to do with any part of me that gets loud and scared and sharp…

I observe.

I let the story rise.
I let the anger swirl.
But I don’t let it hijack my life.

I let it run… on the mat.
Not in my relationships.
Not in my choices.
Not in the sacred space of the present.

🖤 I express — not to feed the storm, but to clear the charge.
Through breath.
Through sound.
Through honest movement.

Because the body?
She knows.
She remembers.
She was never trying to destroy. Only to protect.

I’ve learned (the long way, the soft way) that clarity doesn’t come from reaction.
It comes from regulation.

So I step back.
Not from fear — but from love.
Love for me.

I pause long enough to feel the earth.
To hear my heartbeat.
To remember that I’m not my rage, or my fear, or my wounds.
I am the awareness holding them.
And from that place… I get to choose again.

This is the work.
This is the daily practice.

We don’t need to be perfect.
We just need to be present.

We don’t need to suppress.
We need to feel safely.
Fully.
And then… flow forward.

✨ If you’re learning to hold space for all of you — the sacred, the messy, the beautifully human — come sit with us in the Slow Secrets Tribe.
We’re not here to fix ourselves.
We’re here to come home to ourselves.

One breath, one choice, one sacred pause at a time.

With love,
Julie
